The Democratic Party of Korea’s pro-Lee Jae-myung lawmakers are reexamining the attempted assassination of former US President Donald Trump by comparing it to the stabbing incident of former leader Lee Jae-myung in January of this year. They criticized the domestic media, saying, “The US media does not take issue with former President Trump’s boarding of a helicopter,” but some have pointed out that the comparison is inappropriate since it has not been confirmed that former President Trump actually boarded a helicopter.
On the 15th, Democratic Party lawmaker Kang Sun-woo wrote on her Facebook page, “Trump’s ‘Doctor Helicopter’, Lee Jae-myung’s ‘Doctor Helicopter’, the controversy over preferential treatment that is hard to find in foreign media reports, isn’t it so different from us?” She added, “Just sue Trump for violating the Emergency Medical Services Act. Let’s not rationalize the reasons for the hatred.” Fellow party lawmaker Jeon Hyun-hee also wrote, “They focused their attacks on Lee Jae-myung’s attempted murder and serious injury terrorist attack, saying that the Doctor Helicopter was preferential treatment, and they made a big deal out of it, but the government, the ruling party, and the media are silent about Trump’s Doctor Helicopter, a leading US presidential candidate.” Former lawmaker Jeon also said, “The shamelessness and double standards of those who criticized Representative Lee’s Doctor Helicopter so vigorously are deplorable.” Fellow party lawmaker Choi Min-hee also said, “The American media doesn’t take issue with Trump’s helicopter. They wrote, “The opposition leader’s terrorism is on the back burner, and there is a huge contrast with our media that used to shake up Representative Lee Jae-myung with the doctor helicopter.” All three of them took issue with the controversy over “special treatment” that arose when the former representative was transferred to Seoul National University Hospital by doctor helicopter after being attacked in Busan.
However, it has not been confirmed whether former President Trump rode a helicopter. According to local American media outlets such as CNN and CBS, former President Trump left the scene in a vehicle immediately after the attack on the 13th (local time) and was transferred to Butler Memorial Hospital, about 17km away, for treatment.
Rep. Choi belatedly deleted the post after being pointed out that it was not true. An official at Rep. Choi’s office said, “We deleted it after we were pointed out that former President Trump never boarded a helicopter.” Rep. Park Sun-won, a former member of the National Intelligence Service, posted an article titled “America in stark contrast to its handling of the Lee Jae-myung assassination terrorist,” raising suspicions of a botched investigation. Comparing the FBI announcement to the investigation process of former Representative Lee, he wrote, “(At the time of the attack on former Representative Lee) evidence was suspected of being destroyed by cleaning up the scene, and the identity and party affiliation of the assassin were not disclosed,” and “What did the Yoon Seok-yeol government and the National Intelligence Service do?”
