The sentencing of the so-called ‘sexual harassment silence’ trial of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, which was scheduled for this month, has been postponed until after the presidential election.

According to the Associated Press on the 6th (local time), Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Juan Merchant decided to postpone the sentencing date for the case regarding the alleged misconduct in hush money related to candidate Trump’s sexual harassment to November 26th.

This is very welcome news for candidate Trump, who has already been convicted and is awaiting sentencing.

The court was originally scheduled to decide on the 16th of this month whether the Supreme Court’s decision to exempt former presidents from criminal immunity would affect Trump’s guilty verdict, and then hand down a verdict two days later on the 18th.

Since the guilty verdict, Trump has repeatedly requested a postponement of the sentencing date and has made efforts to avoid a criminal sentence being handed down before the presidential election, including by filing a motion to transfer the case to another court.

The court plans to consider the connection between the Supreme Court’s immunity decision and Trump’s guilty verdict on November 12, a week after the election, and issue a ruling later that month.

Trump is facing trial for allegedly paying $130,000 in hush money to porn star Stormy Daniels through her personal attorney to keep her quiet about an alleged sexual misconduct scandal ahead of the 2016 presidential election, and then making 34 false statements on corporate accounting.

Trump denies all charges, maintains his innocence, and says he will appeal if convicted. His defense team also argues that the guilty verdict is invalid, citing the Supreme Court’s ruling on immunity.

The jury unanimously found him guilty on all 34 charges on May 30.
