Former US President Donald Trump has come out in defense of Putin, after incumbent President Joe Biden attacked the Russian president in his speech yesterday, announcing that he is imposing sanctions on Russia.

“I watched TV yesterday, and I said to myself – this is genius. Putin has declared a large part of Ukraine independent. This is wonderful,” Trump said in an interview.

The White House clarifies: “Biden and Putin meeting not on the agenda”

“I said to myself, ‘This is so smart,’ and he’s going to come in and keep the peace. It’s the strongest peace force. We could use that force on our southern border. It’s the strongest peacekeeping force I’ve ever seen. This guy (Putin) understands. I’m interested. “I know him well. Very, very well.”

The strong ties between Putin and Trump are not new, and in the past Trump has praised the Russian president. It also appears that this statement also signals ahead of the 2024 election, in an attempt to present the current US administration as weak and the border as a breach.

Australia joins sanctions

Meanwhile, after the United States, the European Union and Britain announced sanctions against the Russians, Australia is now joining.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison this morning unveiled a package of sanctions in response to “Russian aggression against Ukraine.” Morrison Mrs said Australia would start with flight bans and impose economic sanctions on eight members of Russia’s National Security Council.

Also, like the Americans, Australia will impose sanctions on the separatist districts of Ukraine Luhansk and Donetsk themselves, which President Putin has recognized as “independent.” Sanctions focus on transportation, energy, communications, gas, oil and minerals. Also, like the British, Australia will work to impose sanctions on a number of Russian banks.

“The invasion has actually already begun,” Morrison said. “Russia is at the peak of readiness to carry out a full invasion of Ukraine. It may take place in the next 24 hours.”
