The White House released preliminary findings from President Donald Trump’s recent medical evaluation, affirming his continued good health despite being the oldest president in US history. The screening, conducted on Friday at Walter Reed Medical Center, marks the second “routine” check-up for the 79-year-old president in just six months.
Positive Indicators & Cardiac Vitality
Dr. Sean Barbabella, President Trump’s physician, reported that the president “successfully completed” the appointment, which is part of an “ongoing health maintenance plan.” The evaluation included “advanced imaging, laboratory testing, and preventative health assessments” performed by a team of specialists.notably, the report highlighted that Trump’s “cardiac age” – a measure of cardiovascular vitality assessed via ECG – is approximately 14 years younger than his chronological age.
“President trump continues to demonstrate excellent overall health,” Dr. Barbabella stated. “He continues to maintain a demanding daily schedule without restriction.” The assessment also indicated strong “neurological and physical performance.”
Previous Health Assessments & Ongoing Monitoring
This latest check-up follows a similar evaluation in April, which detailed the president’s weight at 224 pounds, along with his resting heart rate, temperature, and blood pressure. That earlier examination revealed “no significant abnormalities save for scarring on the right ear from a gunshot wound.” The president also achieved a perfect score of 30 out of 30 on the Montreal Cognitive Assessment during the April visit.
Following his April appointment, Trump himself remarked, “I felt I was in very good shape. A good heart, a good soul, a very good soul.” The White house has not yet released updated statistics from the most recent exam.
Addressing Public Scrutiny & Recent Diagnoses
President Trump’s health has been a frequent topic of discussion, particularly on social media. Earlier this year, speculation arose regarding bruising on his right hand, but Dr. Barbabella attributed the discoloration to frequent handshaking and aspirin use for cardiovascular health. “This is consistent with minor soft tissue irritation…and the use of aspirin, which is taken as part of a standard cardiovascular prevention regimen,” he explained.
Rumors even circulated over the summer questioning whether the president was still alive, fueled by a brief period without public appearances. Trump addressed these claims directly on Truth Social, declaring, “NEVER FELT BETTER IN MY LIFE!”
Despite the generally positive reports, the White House announced in July that Trump had been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, a common condition among older adults that can cause swelling in the legs.
Contrasting Assessments & Lingering Questions
However, not all observers share the White House’s optimistic assessment. MSNBC’s Chris Hayes, on Friday evening, suggested that trump’s age is becoming increasingly apparent. “He’s got a recurring bruise on his hand. he’s constantly trying to cover up makeup. He’s got severely swollen ankles…Mentally, the guy seems off,” Hayes stated. He also questioned the characterization of the October 10th visit as a “second annual” check-up, pointing out the April evaluation.
Concerns about transparency have also surfaced, recalling past instances where Trump’s honesty regarding his health has been challenged. His former physician, Dr. Harold Bornstein, claimed the president once dictated a statement describing his health as “astonishingly excellent” during the 2015 campaign. Additionally, reports emerged in 2019 that Trump requested Walter Reed personnel sign nondisclosure agreements related to a colonoscopy.
As Trump continues his second term, he remains the oldest individual to ever hold the office of president, and if he completes his term, will leave office as the oldest man to ever serve in the presidency.
