AP reports citing sources… “Bilateral talks proceed smoothly”
Millais “The wind of freedom blows… Musk ‘X’ saves humanity”
Trump: “Make Argentina great again”
The Associated Press reported that U.S. President-elect Donald Trump met privately with Argentine President Javier Millais. Meanwhile, attention has been focused on who will be the first foreign leader that President-elect Trump will meet.
Citing a source, the media reported that President-elect Trump met with President Millay at Mar-a-Lago, his mansion in Florida, USA, on the 14th (local time). He explained that the meeting between the two people who met privately went smoothly, and that President Millay met with other investors in addition to President-elect Trump.
Afterwards, President Millay congratulated President-elect Trump on his victory in the presidential election at an America First Policy Institute (AFPI) event and said, “The wind of freedom is blowing much stronger today.”
In addition, he applauded Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who was appointed as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), for social media X (formerly Twitter), saying, “It is helping save humanity.”
President Millay is also called the ‘South American version of Trump’ due to his extreme right-wing tendencies.
“It’s amazing what you’ve done,” President-elect Trump said. “Make Argentina Great Again,” he said. “He is a MAGA person. And, as you know, he is doing that.”
Last November, after then-President Millay won the Argentine presidential election, President-elect Trump posted on social media, “You will change our country and truly make Argentina great again.”
It is known that the two first met at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) last February.

How might the meeting between Trump and Milei impact U.S.-Argentina economic relations?
Time.news Interview with Political Analyst Dr. Clara Jenkins
Editor: Welcome, Dr. Jenkins! Today, we’re diving into some intriguing developments between the U.S. and Argentina, especially concerning the recent meeting between President-elect Trump and Argentine President Javier Milei. What do you make of this significant encounter?
Dr. Jenkins: Thank you for having me! This meeting is enormously significant, not just for U.S.-Argentina relations but also on a broader geopolitical scale. It signals a potential realignment of alliances in the Americas, especially with leaders like Milei adopting very pro-American, right-wing policies.
Editor: Indeed! The Associated Press reported that their meeting at Mar-a-Lago went smoothly. Do you believe this reflects a genuine partnership in the making?
Dr. Jenkins: Absolutely. Both leaders share similar ideologies and visions for their respective countries. Trump’s “Make Argentina Great Again” slogan echoes his own campaign and suggests that they may align on various economic and social issues. Moreover, Milei’s praise for Elon Musk, stating that Twitter is “helping save humanity,” indicates a shared admiration for entrepreneurship and innovation.
Editor: Speaking of Milei, he’s often referred to as the “South American version of Trump.” How do you see their political styles paralleling each other?
Dr. Jenkins: They both embody a populist approach, using direct communication to rally their bases and promoting an agenda that centers on nationalism and conservative values. Milei’s extreme right-wing tendencies resonate with Trump’s brand of politics, where they both leverage their larger-than-life personas to mobilize support.
Editor: That’s fascinating. Milei expressed that “the wind of freedom is blowing much stronger today” after meeting Trump. Do you think this rhetoric will influence public sentiment in Argentina?
Dr. Jenkins: Yes, significant rhetoric like that can inspire and energize voters. Milei has positioned himself as a champion of liberty in a region that has historically had its share of authoritarian regimes. If he can convincingly tie his policies to this idea of freedom and progress, it could bolster his support domestically.
Editor: And what about the implications for investors and the economic landscape in Argentina?
Dr. Jenkins: The meeting with Trump and pro-business assurances can attract U.S. investors, which could be beneficial for Argentina’s struggling economy. However, Milei’s administration needs to balance these foreign relationships with domestic expectations, especially given the economic challenges his country faces.
Editor: With all these developments, how should we interpret Trump’s choice to meet Milei as his first foreign leader?
Dr. Jenkins: This choice speaks volumes about Trump’s foreign policy priorities. By engaging with Milei first, Trump is signaling his intent to strengthen ties with right-leaning leaders in Latin America, potentially reshaping U.S. intervention and influence in the region. It also sets the tone for how America aims to engage with populist movements abroad.
Editor: as we look forward to this evolving relationship, what should we keep an eye on moving forward?
Dr. Jenkins: We should watch for the policy implementations that follow this meeting—particularly in trade and investment. Additionally, monitoring public response in Argentina and any emerging tensions with neighboring countries will be critical, as Milei’s style could provoke opposition both at home and abroad.
Editor: Thank you, Dr. Jenkins, for your insights! It’s certainly a developing story worth following closely.
Dr. Jenkins: Thank you for having me! I look forward to seeing how this plays out.
