Trump Media Launches Paid API Giving Traders Early Access to Truth Social

Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG) has launched a paid subscription service called Truth API, designed to provide financial institutions and other organizations with high-speed access to posts from the most prominent accounts on Truth Social. The service, which went live on a Saturday, allows licensed users to receive a real-time data feed of market-moving publications milliseconds before they are available to the general public.

Targeting High-Frequency Trading

The Truth API is specifically aimed at Wall Street trading firms and high-frequency traders who use automated algorithms to execute trades in fractions of a second. By gaining access to posts from top contributors—including President Donald Trump—these firms can potentially profit from subsequent movements in interest rates, bonds, and stocks.

While many trading companies already monitor the president’s posts via data providers such as Reuters and Bloomberg, the new service offers a speed advantage of several seconds or even milliseconds. According to BBC reports, the subscription costs up to $100,000 per month, with a lower-priced option available at $60,000 per month.

Monetization and Corporate Strategy

Kevin McGurn, the media executive who replaced former Congressman Devin Nunes as CEO, described the move as a strategy to monetize proprietary assets. McGurn stated that the Truth API is expected to be a meaningful, ongoing source of revenue and a high-margin, recurring revenue stream. Trump Media indicated that customers had already signed up prior to the launch.

The initiative comes as the parent company has faced significant financial challenges. Shares of Trump Media & Technology have fallen more than 70% since the president took office last year, dropping from a closing price of $40 to $9.63 as of a Thursday report, erasing $6 billion in shareholder wealth. President Trump holds a direct financial interest in the service; according to his 2025 financial disclosure, he owns 114.75 million shares, representing 41% of the company.

Market Impact and Controversy

The service focuses on the platform’s most influential accounts. President Trump is the most popular user with approximately 13 million followers, followed by his son, Donald Jr. The president has used Truth Social for official announcements during his second term, including notifications regarding new tariffs, the Iran war, and a scuttled nuclear deal with Saudi Arabia.

The ability to receive this information early has drawn criticism from legal experts and lawmakers:

  • Legal Concerns: Kathleen Clark of Washington University School of Law stated that conflict of interest laws bar U.S. officials from owning companies that profit by selling access to their decisions via public posts, calling the move brazen corruption.
  • Legislative Criticism: Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MA) described the program as the depraved essence of insider trading, arguing that a public official is selling advance access to his own policies to high bidders.
  • Industry Reaction: Irene Aldridge, head of Able Alpha Trading, remarked that if the service were offered by a public company CEO, this would be jail time.

Company Defense

Trump Media & Technology has defended the API, claiming that information is released simultaneously to traders and the public, which the company asserts negates concerns regarding fairness. In a statement, the company criticized Democratic detractors for mischaracterizing the service based on ideological opposition to free markets or a failure to understand the difference between public and nonpublic information.

The president’s press office declined to comment on whether White House lawyers reviewed the service, directing all inquiries to the parent company.
