Trump Orders DOJ to Investigate Democrats for Alleged Extortion

President Donald Trump ordered the Department of Justice on November 7, 2026, to immediately investigate congressional Democrats, accusing them of extortion and criminal conduct for threatening administration officials and Republican donors with impeachment and other punishments following the midterm elections, according to Al Jazeera.

Following the midterm elections on November 3, 2026, Democrats won control of both chambers of the US Congress. In a post on Truth Social, President Trump alleged that Democratic lawmakers were going around threatening a lot of people and termed their oversight plans extortion at the highest level. He specifically cited Attorney General Todd Blanche as a target of threatened impeachment.

Lawmakers Prepare Impeachment Proceedings

House Democrats Robert Garcia of California, Hank Johnson of Georgia, and Deborah Ross of North Carolina have publicly discussed or supported potential impeachment proceedings against cabinet officials, including Attorney General Blanche. Representative Garcia also posted LAWYER UP on social media as midterm results confirmed the Democratic majority in the House. Democratic lawmakers signaled plans to launch investigations into executive branch operations, administration financing, and agency practices.

When Democrats take control of Congress in January, they will possess the authority to order access to documents, summon Trump officials to testify, hold hearings, and demand executive records. Democratic lawmakers have been studying a roadmap drafted by the think tank Groundwork Collective that identifies hundreds of executives and companies for potential investigation. House Democrats on the Judiciary and Oversight committees have been reviewing the document.

Representative Hank Johnson stated in a radio interview that the offenses of Todd Blanche demand impeachment, conviction, and removal from office. Representative Ross similarly expressed support for pursuing proceedings against him. Representative Thomas Massie of Kentucky announced plans to reintroduce impeachment articles against Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.

President Trump asserted that Democrats admitted they had no valid basis for these proceedings, writing that there have been no impeachable acts committed or even thought of by the victims. Declaring that imprisonment should be directed against these individuals, he ordered the Department of Justice to investigate the alleged actions as a criminal act immediately. The president further argued that the DOJ and the House of Representatives must act to prevent the Republican Party from losing elections and suffering further setbacks, while urging Republican lawmakers to get smart fast.

Donors and Senator Slotkin Targeted

President Trump accused Democrats of threatening Republican financial supporters with imprisonment. He labeled these actions Weaponization and Lawfare at another level. Trump stated that threatening letters had been sent by Democratic leaders to many innocent people, including donors who contribute to the White House ballroom and other Republican supporters targeted for their political views.

Senator Elissa Slotkin of Michigan spoke on October 13 at the University of Chicago regarding prospective staff entering the administration. Slotkin stated she wanted to establish a deterrence message so that graduates would consider avoiding participation in the administration. Republican Senator Mike Lee criticized Slotkin’s remarks on social media, asserting she was threatening young people who wanted to enter politics, to which Slotkin responded by accusing him of lying and manufacturing outrage. Trump alleged she intended to target young individuals holding Republican values.

Capitol Hill Figures Respond

Mr. President, your threats of legal action and worse didn’t work when you tried to criminally indict me in front of a grand jury last February. Or when you threatened it again last month.

Sen. Elissa Slotkin, D-Mich

Senator Slotkin rejected the president’s accusations in a statement posted on X, pointing to prior legal scrutiny and questioning administration priorities. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise distributed a letter to committee chairs urging preparation for oversight inquiries and potential committee investigations when the new Congress convenes in January.
