Former US President Donald Trump, a Republican, is slightly more popular than Vice President Kamala Harris, a Democrat, in several swing states, according to a public opinion poll conducted by The Hill and Emerson College, Day.Az reports.

According to its results, Trump is ahead of Harris in Arizona by five percentage points – 49% versus 44% support; by two percentage points in Georgia – 48% versus 46%; by one percentage point in Michigan – 46% versus 45%; by two percentage points in Pennsylvania – 48% versus 46%. The politicians have the same level of support in Wisconsin – 47%.

The Hil points out that in all of these states, except Arizona, the difference in support is within the margin of error, meaning that the superiority of one politician or another is not clearly visible.

However, during the previous poll earlier in July, Harris was already more popular than US President Joe Biden in Georgia, Arizona, Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania.

“Since the June 27 debate, Harris has partially rebuilt Democratic support for the presidential election. Harris’ numbers now reflect the same level of support Biden had in March,” said Spencer Kimball, executive director of the Emerson College Poll Service.

He added that the vice president has seen increased support from young voters in Georgia, Arizona, Michigan and Pennsylvania.

The poll was conducted July 22-23 and included a total of 4,095 respondents. The margin of error for Arizona, Georgia and Michigan is approximately 3.4 percentage points; for Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, it is 3.3 percentage points.

In US electoral practice, “swing” states are those states in which, on the eve of the presidential elections, there is an approximately equal level of popularity for candidates from both major parties. Often, it is the votes of voters in “swing” states that determine the victory of one or another candidate in the presidential elections.
