Former US President Donald Trump said he will testify at a hearing in the case of forgery of financial documents of the Trump Organization in the payment of money to Stormy Daniels.

“I’m telling the truth, I mean that all I can do is tell the truth. And the truth is that there is no case,” he told the NBC television channel, Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.

“I would definitely testify,” Trump said when asked by a reporter whether he would participate in the hearing.

Earlier, a court in New York again rejected the request of Trump representatives, who asked to postpone the start of the trial on the merits of the forgery of financial documents of the Trump Organization until the Supreme Court decides that the former head of the American administration has immunity from legal prosecution. The trial is scheduled to begin April 15.

The reason for the investigation into the case related to Stormy Daniels (real name Stephanie Clifford) was the publication of The Wall Street Journal in January 2018. According to the newspaper, a month before Trump won the 2016 election, his lawyer Michael Cohen paid the actress $130 thousand so that she would not spread information about her relationship with Trump in 2006-2007.

In 2018, Michael Cohen stood trial on several charges, one of which involved violating Trump campaign finance rules, specifically payments to Stormy Daniels. Then the prosecutor’s office did not file claims against Trump, citing the immunity of the head of state. However, in November 2022, the Manhattan District Attorney’s office began a new investigation. According to investigators, Trump reimbursed his lawyer for the money spent, processing it through the Trump Organization as payment for legal fees, citing a non-existent legal advance. On April 4, 2023, a court in Manhattan brought criminal charges against Trump in the case of payments to Stormy Daniels. Thus, Trump became the first ex-president in US history to be charged with a criminal offense.
