Trump said Wednesday he would travel to Springfield “within the next two weeks.”

“I’m going to Springfield, and I’m going to Aurora,” he added, promising to also go to the Denver, Colorado suburb where Trump has repeatedly claimed a Venezuelan gang has violently taken over an apartment complex.

“You may never see me again, but that’s okay,” Trump said, prompting laughter from the audience.

“What’s got to be done, it’s got to be done. What happened to Trump? Well, he never made it out of Springfield,” added the ex-president.

The speech in Long Island featured constant attacks on illegal immigrants, who were described as animals, terrorists, criminals and gang members who are destroying the American way of life.

Such harsh rhetoric has become a theme of Trump’s campaign, with Democratic challenger Kamal Harris trying to portray him as soft on immigration and responsible for millions of people entering the US illegally under her leadership.

“We have a huge number of terrorists coming into our country,” Trump said at the rally.

“We’re going to jail these violent people and send them back to their country, and if they come back, they’re going to pay a hell of a price,” the Republican White House contender vowed.

In a televised debate with Harris on September 10, Trump claimed that Haitian immigrants were eating the pets of Springfield residents.

Similar claims about immigrants have been made by other people in the Trump campaign, including Republican vice presidential candidate Ohio Senator J.D. Vance.

Springfield Mayor Rob Roe later told NewsNation that Trump’s claims were simply not true and were bringing negative attention to the city.

“Springfield is still beautiful and your pets are safe,” the mayor said.
