What brings final experience at the showdown in Berlin? Frankfurt’s captain Rode sees an advantage for RB Leipzig. He himself wants to experience a different final than in 2016 and 2017.

Eintracht Frankfurt captain Sebastian Rode assumes that defending champions RB Leipzig can benefit from their recent performances in Berlin in the DFB Cup final. “Experience in the final is something very special. I see Leipzig with the trump cards because they have experienced it before,” Rode said at the press conference on Friday. The Bundesliga soccer club from Saxony, who were in the final in 2019, 2021 and 2022, is the favorite on Saturday (8 p.m. / ZDF and Sky).

The 32-year-old Rode can expect to be in the starting XI. In 2016 (FC Bayern) and 2017 (Borussia Dortmund), the midfielder was part of the cup-winning team, but did not play in the final. “I’m looking forward to playing minutes here in the cup final,” said Rode, earning laughter in the press room. The title triple would be fine with Rode, but not with another bankroll over the entire duration of the game.

But Leipzig also has respect for the former Europa League winner. Coach Marco Rose listed the strengths of Frankfurt, sometimes in staccato style. “We all know Kolo Muani’s qualities. Lindstrom pace, Götze football, Kamada football. They’re a very good team,” said Rose. (dpa)
