Trump’s former adviser released from prison after serving time for contempt of Congress

The Federal Bureau of Prisons of the United States, reported the release of Peter Navarro, former commercial advisor to the former president Donald Trump, after serving a four-month sentence in a federal prison in Miami.

Harvard-educated Navarro becomes the first senior advisor of the former president to be jailed due to Trump’s attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.

The man also known as the creator of the “Green Bay Sweep,” a plan to block the certification of the 2020 election results, received the sentence for two charges of contempt of Congress which investigated the January 6, 2021, assault on the Capitol by Trump supporters.

Finally, a federal jury in Washington found the economist guilty after a two-day trial, during which he claimed to be victim of a “partisan instrumentalization” of the judicial system.

The former advisor becomes the second close collaborator of the former US president to be convicted of contempt of Congress for defying subpoenas from the House of Representatives committee.

Navarro will travel to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to give a speech at the Republican National Conventionwhere he will be one of the featured speakers.
