The lawyers of the presidential candidate, Donald Trumpasked the court to postpone until after the November elections the announcement of his sentence after being found guilty of hiding money to buy the silence of an adult film star.
Todd Blanche claims that the planned date for the announcement, set for September 18thdoes not give Trump enough time to potentially appeal the outcome of a separate hearing on September 16 on presidential immunity stemming from a ruling by the Supreme Court.

In a letter to the judge, Blanche also argued that “there is no basis for further rushing,” other than the unspecified “spurious objectives of electoral interference”.
In May, Trump was found guilty by a New York jury of 34 counts of falsifying business records to cover up hush money payments to then-porn star Stormy Daniels to prevent her from revealing an alleged extramarital affair.
Trump is the first former US president to be convicted of a criminal offense.
“The sentence is currently scheduled to be announced Once early voting begins in the presidential election,” Blanche wrote to the court.

The lawyers of the tycoon and current Republican candidate for president in the November 5 elections, had requested the recusal of Judge Juan Merchán alleging the work of his daughter for a Democratic organization, which constitutes a “conflict of interest”.
But Merchan rejected this, considering that the defense arguments are nothing more than a “repetition of stale and unfounded claims.”
Trump has tried by every means to delay the various cases he has pending before the courts until after the presidential elections, including Washington and the state of Georgiawhere he is accused of trying to overturn the results of the 2020 election he lost to the Democrat Joe Biden.
