Mynor Morales will continue to lead the Municipality of San Miguel Petapa after the Supreme Electoral Tribunal revoked the resolution where it ordered a repeat of the election and confirmed the results of the June 25 voting.

The magistrates’ decision was registered after the Compromiso, Renovación y Orden (CREO) party withdrew from the legal action where it challenged the results that gave Morales the winner.

The group claimed that its symbol did not appear on the pink ticket and acted, for which reason the TSE ordered the elections to be repeated, but after withdrawing the challenge, the magistrates ratified the results that gave Morales, father of the mayor-elect of Villa Nueva, the winner.

Election will only be repeated in 5 municipalities

The residents of five municipalities will have to go to the polls on August 20 to elect the municipal mayor. The vote will be repeated, because due to the problems registered on June 25, the authorities decided to suspend the process.

The points where the new municipal corporations will be elected for the period 2024-2028 are San Jose del Golfo; San Martin Zapotitlan; Yepocapa; San Pablo Jocopilas and San Bartolome Jocotenango.
