Stefanos Tsitsipas won the Monte Carlo Tournament, the second Masters 1000 of the season played on clay at the Roccabruna Country Club.
The race
The Greek, number five in the ranking and fourth favorite of the scoreboard, beat the Russian in the final, with a score of 6-3 6-3 Andrey Rublev, number 8 in the ranking and sixth favorite in seeding, in an hour and 12 minutes of play. For the 22-year-old from Athens, the first career success in a Masters 1000, after the finals he lost in 2018 in Toronto and in 2019 in Madrid. For the opponent, 23 year old from Moscow, it was the first final in a Masters 1000. Today’s final act is without history: in the first decisive set break in the second game; in the second fraction break in the third and in the ninth and final game. Three times therefore Rublev he has lost his service; while Tsitsipas never gave up the games in which he was at bat. Overall, the Greek appeared to be more solid and earthy than the Russian. For the Hellenic a tournament to be framed, in which he did not leave a single set on the street.
