CHENNAI: Prime Minister Modi honored the Nilgiris with a gold medal for being selected as a tuberculosis-free district.
The ‘World Tuberculosis Summit’ was held yesterday in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi. In this, Prime Minister Modi awarded medals to the districts that have completely controlled tuberculosis and the districts that are implementing the program well.
According to WHO data, the Nilgiris district in Tamil Nadu has achieved ‘TB-free’ status. Prime Minister Modi presented the gold medal and certificate to Shilpa Prabhakar Satish, Director, National Wellbeing Group on behalf of the Government of Tamil Nadu.
Also, Trichy and Tiruvarur districts were awarded gold medals for effective control of tuberculosis. Likewise, Madurai, Tuticorin, Kanyakumari, Tiruvannamalai, Karur districts have been awarded silver medal and Krishnagiri district has been awarded bronze medal.
