Tuchel takes over at Bayern with the motto “you have to win”

The new coach of Bayern Munich, Thomas Tuchel, said this Saturday during his presentation that he was clear about the DNA of his new club, which could be summed up in the phrase “you have to win”. “The club’s DNA is clear: you have to win. It also matters, of course, how you win, but above all you have to win,” he said at a press conference.

Tuchel said that just entering the Bayern sports complex made the importance of the club clear to anyone and said that naturally it is an honor for anyone to be contacted by him. On the other hand, he admitted that he is also happy to work close to his family – who lives in Munich – and in the federal state where he was born. “Well, it’s the border with Baden-Württenberg but it’s still Bavaria,” he said.

Tuchel arrives to face a great challenge next weekend in a match against Borussia Dortmund -one of his former clubs- in which Bayern can recover the lead.

“It’s not the right time to make big changes to the system. I have full confidence in the squad. Naturally, we’re all under pressure, but that’s always the case when you sign for Bayern,” he said.

“The challenge couldn’t be bigger than having the first game against Dortmund, it’s the quintessential German football game that now has special relevance because we’re below in the table and because Dortmund is on a roll,” said the coach.

Tuchel, questioned about the duration of his contract -two years- played down the issue. “The duration of the contract is secondary. If things work out surely we will all want to extend it and if someone on the podium is dissatisfied, things end, regardless of what the paper says,” said Tuchel, who was surrounded by the president of the Board of Directors from Bayern, Oliver Kahn, and the sports director, Hasan Salihamidzic.

Kahn alluded to Tuchel’s career -he has gone through Mainz, Dortmund, SG and Chelsea- which he described as “impressive”. “I think there are easier things in the world than coaching PSG,” Kahn said. “With Chelsea Thomas won the Champions League. It’s an impressive run,” he added. (EFE)
