The former star presenter of the Fox News television network and figure of the American far-right Tucker Carlson announced Tuesday that he will relaunch his program on Twitter after being fired from the channel.
“Soon we will bring to Twitter a new version of the program that we have been doing in the last six and a half years,” he said in a video posted on his account on that social network, where he assured, addressing users, that “freedom of expression “It is the main right they have.
“Without him, there is no other,” warned Carlson, who from his program “Fox News Tonight” echoed for years of falsehoods and conspiracy theories.
Although at no time did he expressly mention the television network, launched a veiled criticism of his former employer criticizing the traditional mediawhich, he remarked, manipulate the news.
“The best thing you can hope for in the news business at this point is the freedom to tell the whole truth, but there are always limits that, you know, if you push those limits too often you get fired for it,” he said.
In this sense, he pointed out that currently there are hardly any platforms that allow freedom of expression and that “the only one left in the world” is Twitter, which he described as a “non-partisan site, open to everyone.”
In April, Fox News reported Carlson’s departure, one of the most influential figures on the American right together with former President Donald Trump (2017-2021).
The announcement came less than a week after Fox agreed to pay $787.5 million in a settlement with Dominion Voting Systems to avoid a last-minute defamation lawsuit in which the voting machine company accused the network of of spreading falsehoods about alleged fraud in the 2020 elections, in which Trump lost to Democrat Joe Biden.
During these years, Carlson has fueled those unfounded allegations that there was electoral fraud in those US elections, as Trump himself has been doing.
