The Fijian center learned of the death of his son just before challenging Georgia during the World Cup (17-12). He will stay with his selection and could play against Portugal on Sunday.

Fijian center Josua Tuisova, who lost his seven-year-old son on Friday following a long illness, did not attend his funeral on Tuesday in Votua, Fiji, preferring to stay with his teammates who are aiming for the quarter-finals of the 2023 World Cup.

According to the Fiji Village news site, Tuisova learned of the death of her son Tito from her father Isikeli Ratulevu on Saturday, shortly before playing against Georgia (17-12) in Bordeaux. Despite his pain, the future Racing 92 player played in this match which he was unable to finish following a yellow card received in the 79th minute for a dangerous tackle.

His son Tito, 7, died after a long illness at the hospital in Lautoka, the second city in the South Pacific archipelago.

Asked about this drama on Tuesday during a press briefing, Fijian coach Simon Raiwalui cut it short: “Jos’ respectfully asked not to talk about it, so we won’t talk about it but will leave it in the private domain.»

The “Flying Fijians” will advance to the quarter-finals if they take at least one point against Portugal on Sunday in Toulouse (9:00 p.m.).
