Tunisia.. The judiciary returns “Daimi” to the presidential race

by times news cr

The Administrative Court in Tunisia ruled today, Friday, to reinstate Imed Daimi, former advisor to President Moncef Marzouki, to the presidential race scheduled for October 6, thus becoming the sixth candidate for the presidential elections.

Reuters quoted politician Imed Daimi as saying that the Tunisian Administrative Court had upheld, on Friday, an appeal he had filed to allow him to return to the presidential race.

Al-Daimi became the third candidate to be returned to the race by the court, after Abdel Latif Al-Makki and Munther Al-Zunaidi, whose nominations were previously rejected by the Election Commission on grounds of insufficient endorsements.

Al-Daimi was excluded in the first stage of the litigation, and then the court accepted his candidacy in the appeal “in form and substance,” according to what the court indicated in a statement, but this decision awaits confirmation from the elections commission, which meets next week to determine the final list of candidates.

Since the beginning of the week, this body has already accepted two appeals, one by former minister Mondher Zenaidi and the second by Abdellatif Mekki, a former leader in the Ennahda movement and one of the fiercest opponents of President Kais Saied.

It is noteworthy that Imed Daimi, 54 years old, is the vice president of the “Hirak” party led by former President Moncef Marzouki, and he is one of the most vocal critics of the policies of current President Kais Saied.
