Tunisian Trade Discusses with UN Delegation Developments of the “Continental Trade Corridor with Libya” Project

Tunisian Minister of Trade Kalthoum Ben Rejeb discussed with Assistant Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa Hanan Morsi and Regional Director for North Africa Adam Harika the latest developments in the Tunisian-Libyan continental trade corridor project towards sub-Saharan African countries.

According to what the ministry published on its official Facebook page, “the discussions held in Tunisia focused on the possibility of developing partnership opportunities between Tunisia and the Economic Commission for Africa, and reviewing the developments of the Tunisian-Libyan continental trade corridor project; in an effort to achieve economic integration and regional integration.”

The Tunisian Minister said: “This project is one of the model projects for achieving economic integration and regional integration, the starting point of which will be the free zone for commercial and logistical activities in Ben Guerdane and the Ras Jedir border crossing, the largest land crossing on the continent, which will link Tunisia and Libya to 5 landlocked African countries, namely Chad, Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso and the Central African Republic.”

For her part, Assistant Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, Hanan Morsy, stressed “the importance of this strategic project in creating momentum at the level of trade exchange in the North African region and linking it to the rest of the continent.”
