A fire reached the region of the João Paulo II Tunnel, known as the Anhangabaú Tunnel, heading north, in the Historic Center of São Paulo, early this Thursday (30). To contain the flames, the expressway on Avenida 23 de Maio, towards Santana, under the Doutor Eusébio Matoso Viaduct, was completely blocked.

The Traffic Engineering Company (CET) reported that the detour is being made along the side of the viaduct. In this way, drivers will be able to access Vale do Anhangabaú normally.

According to preliminary information from the Fire Department, at the site there are small fires that are still causing a large cloud of smoke.

The Metropolitan Civil Guard (GCM) said that the fire is concentrated in a kind of hole made in the tunnel structure where people in socially vulnerable situations sleep.

According to the Fire Department, a team has been on site since 00:08. So far there is no information about victims.
