Greece and Turkey reaffirmed their joint commitment to building on the existing positive atmosphere in their relations. This happened at a meeting today in Ankara between the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece Alexandra Papadopoulou and her Turkish counterpart Burak Akchapar within the framework of the political dialogue between the foreign ministries of the two countries, reported the Greek publication Kathimerini, quoted by BTA.

“The two sides reaffirmed their joint commitment to build on the existing positive atmosphere in line with the Athens Declaration signed last December by the leaders of the two countries by exploring additional areas of bilateral and international cooperation,” said a joint statement issued after the meeting.

The two sides also discussed preparations for the upcoming visit of Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to Turkey in May, as well as “taking stock of the progress made so far in existing dialogue channels covering all aspects of bilateral relations.”

Mitsotakis together with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan signed a joint declaration pledging to maintain good neighborly relations at the fifth High Level Cooperation Council meeting held in Athens on 12 December 2023.
