Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said today that the country’s main goal is to achieve “complete energy independence”, Anadolu Agency reported.

“Our main goal is to achieve complete independence in energy. We are determined and boldly implement initiatives that will guarantee Turkey energy security,” the head of state said in a speech during a meeting in the Turkish Black Sea district of Zonguldak, BTA reports.

Erdogan also said that daily production from the Gabbar Mountain oil well, located in southeastern Şırnak County, has exceeded 35,000 barrels to date.

“We have set ourselves the goal of daily production at Gabar reaching 100,000 barrels at the end of 2024,” he added.

Since 2020, Turkey has increased its efforts in oil and gas exploration, and these efforts have resulted in the discovery of new deposits in the southeastern Gabar region. The record levels of oil production, to which the new deposits contributed, brought the country closer to the goal of achieving energy independence, the agency notes.
