(ANSA) – ISTANBUL, JULY 8 – The launch of Turksat 6A, “the first national satellite” of Turkey, produced domestically, is scheduled for this night. The Presidency of the Republic of Ankara announced this, announcing that the launch is scheduled for 00:20 local time, 23:20 in Italy, on July 9, from the Cape Canaveral base in Florida and will be carried out with the Falcon 9 launcher of Elon Musk’s Space X company.
Turksat 6A has a power capacity of 7.5 kilowatts and is expected to be positioned at 35,786 kilometers in a geocentric orbit. “Turksat 6A will increase satellite coverage, as it will cover India, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia, increasing our coverage from about 3.5 billion people to about five billion,” Turkey’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloglu recently said, as per Anadolu. “We currently cover Europe, the Middle East, Turkic nations, parts of East Asia and a significant part of Africa, especially North Africa,” Uraloglu added, referring to the other Ankara-operated satellites that have been launched into orbit: Turksat 3A, 4A, 4B, 5A and 5B.
