Turkish drones Bayraktar (“Bayraktar”) will be produced in Ukraine. As Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said on Thursday, February 3, the parties agreed to conclude a framework agreement on the construction of a drone production plant, which is planned to be signed later on the same day during the visit of a Turkish delegation to Kiev.

“It is planned to sign a framework agreement on cooperation between Ukraine and Turkey in the field of high military technologies,” the Ukrainian News agency quoted Reznikov as saying. “One of the examples of filling this agreement will be the Bayraktar drone construction plant.” According to the minister, a center will also be created in the country to train pilots to operate unmanned aerial vehicles of various categories.

Turkish drones will fly with Ukrainian engines

Reznikov pointed out that according to the decision of the Turkish company Bayraktar Savunma, which produces drones, their next generation will use Ukrainian Motor Sich engines.

At the end of October 2021, Ukraine, despite the current ban, for the first time officially used the Bayraktar drone against the separatists of Donbass, which caused sharp criticism in Russia and concern in Germany. Kiev justified the use of the drone with the right to self-defense.

Kiev ready for talks on Donbass in Istanbul

At the same time, the head of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry said that Kiev is ready to accept Turkey’s proposal to hold talks in Istanbul to resolve the situation in the Donbass, but this requires Moscow’s consent. “The Ukrainian side is ready for negotiations in Istanbul, as well as in Geneva and Vienna, in any place where there is disengagement, independence from one of the parties, namely from the Russian Federation. We will be ready, but the other side must agree” – stressed the Ukrainian minister.

Two weeks earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan offered himself as a mediator in the conflict over Ukraine. On February 3, the Turkish leader arrives on a visit to Kiev.
