Turkish security forces have “neutralized” a total of 17 terrorists in northern Iraq and northern Syria, the Ministry of National Defense announced today, as quoted by the Anadolu Agency.

The ministry reported that 15 terrorists from the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) were attacked in the areas of Gara and Metina, as well as in the area of operation “Paw-Kluch” in northern Iraq. The remaining two terrorists from the Syrian Kurdish People’s Protection Forces ( YPG), which Ankara says are linked to the PKK, were struck in Manbij, northern Syria, BTA reported.

Turkish authorities use the term “neutralization” to imply that the terrorists in question have surrendered, been killed or captured.

Terrorists often hide in northern Iraq, just across the Turkish border, to prepare terrorist attacks in Turkey, Anadolu Agency said.

In 2022, Turkey launched Operation Paw-Kluch against the hideouts of the PKK terrorist group in the Metina, Zap and Awasin-Basyan regions of northern Iraq.

During its 40-year terror campaign against Turkey, the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US and the EU, has been responsible for the deaths of more than 40,000 people, including women, children, infants and elderly people. The People’s Protection Forces (YPG) is the Syrian offshoot of the PKK, Anadolu Agency said.
