Turkish mine blast death toll rises to 40- Dinamani

The death toll from an explosion at a coal mine in Turkey’s northern Bardin province has risen to 40.

More than 150 people were working in the coal mine located in Amazra city of Bardin province. Yesterday evening around 6.15 pm there was a sudden explosion in a part of the coal mine.

According to reports, 110 people were working at the time of the mining accident and 40 people have died so far. Many more were trapped in the rubble. Rescue operations are ongoing.

Those injured in the mining accident are receiving intensive care. And as rescue operations continue, the death toll is feared to rise further.

In 2014, a bomb blast in the western Turkish city of Soma killed 301 people.
