Ankaragucu Club President Resigns After Punching Referee

Faruk Koca, the president of Ankaragucu club, has resigned following a shocking incident during a Turkish Super League football match. Koca was seen punching referee Halil Yumut Meler in the face during the match against Kaikur Resespor, causing the referee to fall to the ground.

The incident occurred after Resespor scored a goal in the last minute of injury time, leading to Koca’s outburst of anger. He was subsequently arrested by the police for his actions.

As a result of the incident, matches in the Turkish league have been canceled indefinitely. Turkish Football Association Chairman Mehmet Buyukeksi condemned the attack as a disgrace to Turkish football and announced the postponement of upcoming matches in the league.

Following his arrest, Koca issued an apology to the fans, expressing his regret for the incident. FIFA president Gianni Infantino also voiced his disapproval of Koca’s actions.

This is not the first time such shocking incidents have occurred in Turkish football. In 2015, an assailant shot at the bus carrying the Fenerbahçe team, and in 2010, Fenerbahçe fans set fire to their own ground after a loss.

The incident has sparked outrage and raised concerns about the state of football in Turkey, with many calling for stricter measures to prevent such violent acts.
