Türkiye calls on the international community to recognize the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

As reported by Day.Az, the text of the corresponding statement of the Turkish parliament, dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Turkish Armed Forces operation to ensure peace in Cyprus, was published on Saturday, July 20, in the official government gazette – Resmi Gazete.

“We call on the international community to recognize the reality of the island, to immediately end the unjust and inhuman isolation of the people of Northern Cyprus, and to recognize the TRNC as Lefkosa deserves,” the document says.

Turkish MPs expressed pride at the latest anniversary of the landing of troops in northern Cyprus, which “ended the policy of oppression and killing of Turkish Cypriots that lasted from 1963 to 1974.”

“The actions of the Turkish military became a guarantor of the existence and security of the Turkish people of Cyprus, and ensured stability on the island,” the Turkish parliament emphasized.

The focus is on Ankara’s contribution to bringing about a fair and lasting peace in Cyprus. “Despite the good will of the Turkish side and the desire for a mutually acceptable solution, the Greek side has maintained a destructive position in the negotiation process for over half a century, which has not allowed the differences to be resolved. At the same time, the Greek community of the island was “rewarded” by being accepted into the EU, while the Turkish Cypriots faced restrictions and an embargo,” the parliament statement notes.

Turkish parliamentarians note that the only and unconditional way to resolve disagreements over Cyprus is international recognition of the rights of Turkish Cypriots.

“Turkey will continue to fully support the TRNC under any circumstances and will not allow the rights and interests of Turkish Cypriots to be infringed upon,” the parliament emphasized.
