Turkey has demanded that Iran stop supplying weapons to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which is banned in the country, and not interfere in Ankara’s military operation against armed Kurdish groups. As reported by Day.Az, this was reported by the Yeni Şafak newspaper, citing sources.

“Last week, a meeting between Turkey and Iran took place in Sulaymaniyah (Iraq). Iran was asked to stop supplying PKK and was offered cooperation in the fight against the terrorist organization,” the publication wrote, noting that representatives of the Turkish Foreign Ministry and security agencies were present at the meeting.

The newspaper had previously published a story claiming that the US and Iran were supplying drones and missiles to the PKK in Iraq, although Iranian officials said they had not supplied any to the militants.

According to the publication, the Turkish government has ordered the army to destroy any arms supplies to Kurdish militants.

Earlier, the leader of the Turkish Vatan Party, Dogu Perincek, proposed creating a military alliance with Russia to fight the PKK.
