The morning violence unfolded outside a vocational and technical high school when a student at the facility arrived armed with a shotgun retrieved from his grandmother’s residence. The assailant fired randomly near the campus before attempting to flee on foot, according to news reports from the HaberTurk news channel cited by international coverage. Images and video footage posted online showed the suspect walking down a nearby street holding a rifle before reversing direction.
Injuries and Immediate Medical Response in Manisa
Emergency medical teams and police units rushed to the scene following reports of gunfire in the vicinity. At least 11 individuals sustained injuries during the attack and were rushed to local hospitals for urgent medical treatment.
Justice Minister Akin Gurlek confirmed during a public statement that at least two of the wounded were in critical condition. Outside the school perimeter, anxious parents converged on the area, leading to tense confrontations with police officers who deployed cordons and pushed back onlookers blocking access to the building.

In April, a former student wounded 16 people at a high school in Sanliurfa province before killing himself. Just one day later, a 14-year-old student opened fire inside classrooms in Kahramanmaras province, killing nine people—including students and a teacher—and wounding 13 others before police shot him dead.
Those spring tragedies sparked nationwide outrage and prompted the government to roll out tighter gun controls and enhanced security protocols across educational facilities for the academic year.
