Turkey’s antimonopoly regulator, the Competition Council, imposed an administrative fine of 335.7 million liras (about $10.5 million) on the Meta corporation (recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation).
As Day.Az reports with a link to TASS, TRT TV channel reported this with reference to the regulator’s decision.
The decision came after Meta stopped the operation of the Threads application in Turkey, which Ankara had complaints about in the context of violations of the rules of healthy competition in the market. The current decision cancels the previously imposed daily fine of 4.79 million liras ($154 thousand). The corporation had to pay this amount daily since the fall of 2023, when the investigation into Threads began. The fine is based on Meta’s total 2022 revenue.
The corporation had to pay a fine until it complied with the regulator’s requirements regarding Threads in Turkey. After April 29, 2024, this service, by decision of Meta, ceased to be available in the republic. In this regard, the regulator replaced the daily fine with a one-time fine.
