/ Activists affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood revealed on Monday that Turkey had withdrawn its citizenship from Mahmoud Hussein, the acting guide of the group, and invalidated his personal passport, following Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s visit to Egypt.

Mahmoud Hussein, the acting guide of the Muslim Brotherhood in the Istanbul front, has been residing in Turkey legally since 2014, according to some activists.

Some activists affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood rushed to confirm that the matter was nothing more than an administrative error that the Turkish state had rectified and corrected, and restored rights to their owners, according to what some had published.

Activists confirmed that the revocation of Mahmoud Hussein’s Turkish citizenship occurred 3 months ago due to incorrect data in the applicant’s file for citizenship, and the decision included 36 other people.

Some people linked the decision to revoke the nationalities of the leaders and members of the Muslim Brotherhood to the visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Egypt, and that the decision was one of the results of that visit.

The Saudi Al Arabiya channel says that Hussein sold an apartment he owned in Istanbul, and is currently studying with the group’s officials whether to stay to resolve the problem with the Turkish authorities or to look for another country to reside in.

She pointed out that Brotherhood leaders began leaving Turkish territory following President Erdogan’s visit to Egypt, including media personnel, members of the Brotherhood’s Hasm movement, and academics who were working in Turkish universities. Other elements were also subjected to restrictions and their activities on social media were restricted.

For his part, the activist affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood, Amr Abdel Hadi, said via his account on the “X” platform, “The withdrawal of citizenship was before Erdogan went to Egypt and not after his return, stressing that there is no decision to hand over any opponent whose Turkish citizenship was withdrawn or will be withdrawn from him soon, whether he resides in Qatar or Turkey.”

Mahmoud Hussein Ahmed Hassan has been the Secretary-General of the Muslim Brotherhood, succeeding Mahmoud Ezzat, since 2010. He joined the Guidance Bureau after the death of Abu al-Hamad Rabie to represent Upper Egypt.
