A diplomatic source said that Turkey will submit a declaration on Wednesday to join the genocide case filed by South Africa against Israel before the International Court of Justice in The Hague.
The source added that the announcement will be issued later today, after Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said this week that Turkey would issue the announcement on Wednesday.
The source added: “The Turkish intervention will push the international community to recognize and address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.”
Last May, Turkey said it had decided to join the case filed by South Africa, as part of its escalating measures against Israel over its attack on the Gaza Strip, adding that its efforts would adhere to the necessary legal preparations for the move.
Last June, Spain said it had requested to join the case before the International Court of Justice.
The International Court of Justice is the highest court in the United Nations, and was established in 1945 to deal with disputes between states.
Israel has repeatedly rejected the genocide accusations as baseless, saying in court that its operations in the Gaza Strip were self-defense and targeted Hamas militants who attacked Israel on October 7.
