jpnn.comJAKARTA – Google announced that it will no longer provide support for service development on mobile phones using the Android Lollipop operating system.

This step is taken considering that the Android Lollipop or Android 5.0 system has existed for a decade or ten years.

For a technology that is developing so rapidly, an operating system that is 10 years old is considered old technology.

“We’re stopping Google Play Services updates for Android Lollipop devices, as they account for less than 1 percent of active Android devices.”

“Lollipop devices will continue to function but will not receive new features, critical security updates, and may not be compatible with some apps,” Google said in a statement.

The days when Google named its operating systems after snacks were fun.

Android Lollipop itself was introduced in 2014 through the Google I/O event, and was officially released globally five months later via an over-the-air update.

Through Lollipop installed on the device, it is known that users can search for songs, photos, and applications from one device, then can be enjoyed through various other Android devices.
