On today’s (July 7, Sunday) episode 1431 of KBS’ ‘TV Show Real Masterpiece’, the commissioned items include: △glasses and a glasses case △a collaborative painting by Namnong Heo Geon and Cheonggang Kim Yeong-gi △summer items from our ancestors.
‘TV Show Genuine Masterpieces’ was planned with the purpose of discovering our cultural assets hidden in private collections, examining their value, and encouraging awareness of the protection of our cultural assets to encourage their preservation.
The show appraisal team will include comedians Seunghyun Yoon (comedian), Hyunho Hong (comedian), and Sookyung Lee (comedian), and the expert appraisers Kyungsoo Kim (folk art appraisal committee member), Dongman Jin (painting appraisal committee member), and Soyun Shin (folk art appraisal committee member) will appear.
◆ Glasses and glasses case
The first commission introduces three objects whose uses are intriguing. All are the size of the palm of one’s hand, and one is decorated with mother-of-pearl.
The remaining two points were covered with small circular patterns. It is impossible to tell what their purpose is just by looking at them.
When I opened the lid, there were glasses inside! The object of the request was a glasses case, an item made and used in the late Joseon Dynasty.
It is said that our ancestors made eyeglass lenses by cutting crystals and eyeglass frames by making them out of tin.
Also, the glasses case that holds the glasses is said to have been made using a ‘special material.’ What could it be?
◆ A collaborative work by Namnong Heo Geon and Cheonggang Kim Yeong-gi
Here is a unique painting. Materials that do not match the season, from plum blossoms to chrysanthemums, are drawn together on one sheet.
Optimism was also stamped in two places. This painting was a joint work of Namnong Heo Geon and Cheonggang Kim Yeong-gi, who led modern and contemporary Korean painting in Korea.
This week’s work is one that allows you to feel the writing style and individuality of the two authors.
◆ Our ancestors’ summer supplies
The last commissioned item will be the summer vacation items of our ancestors. Just looking at these commissioned items, such as fans, bamboo hats, and wooden pillows, will make you feel refreshed!
The show evaluation team also listened to explanations about the commissioned items and even tried out some hands-on experiences to beat the heat.
On the other hand, since these items are still easily found, everyone expected that the estimated appraisal value would be low.
