National Transport and Safety Authority Tracks Highway Black Spots
The crash compounds mounting concern over safety along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway, which Kenya’s National Transport and Safety Authority classifies as a designated accident black spot. The disaster follows another fatal incident on the same highway that claimed 17 lives in an accident involving multiple cars.
Authorities attribute many such crashes to driver fatigue, speeding, and mechanical failures from poorly maintained vehicles including worn tyres and faulty brakes, alongside poor road conditions such as potholes, confusing signage, and inadequate lighting.
