Twitter Users Face Global Outage, Cannot Retrieve Tweets

July 1, 2023

Twitter, the popular social media platform, experienced a global outage on Saturday, leaving thousands of users unable to access the site. Reports indicate that users have been receiving error messages such as “Cannot retrieve tweets” and “Rate limit exceeded.” Additionally, some users have reported issues with missing timelines and disappearing followers.

According to the Down Detector website, nearly 4,000 people have complained about the problems they are facing on Twitter. In particular, users have expressed frustration with the “rate-limit exceeded” message appearing on their “For You” page, where personalized content is typically found.

At this time, the cause of the outage is unclear, and Twitter has yet to make an official comment regarding the situation. This marks the third time that the platform has experienced an outage in recent months. On March 6, users faced glitches such as non-functioning links, login difficulties, and image loading problems. Similarly, on February 8, many users were unable to tweet, follow accounts, or access their direct messages due to technical issues.

The frustration among Twitter users is palpable, with one individual on the Down Detector website stating, “I joined Twitter in 2009, and I’ve had more problems since Elon took over than the whole time before that. Insanity.” Even users who still have access to the platform have reported their own set of problems.

As the outage continues, many remain uncertain about when the issue will be resolved and when they will regain full functionality on Twitter. It is hoped that Twitter will address the situation soon and provide updates to its user base.
