Affected users on both sides of the Atlantic. The social network Twitter, recently acquired by Elon Musk, suffered from malfunctions this Wednesday at midday in several parts of the world, according to reports made on Downdetector.

The site, specializing in the detection of incidents on the Internet, reported at noon more than 4,200 reports in the United States, and more than 1,600 in France.

For many users, the site and the mobile application no longer provided access to the news feeds of the most recent tweets, but it was still possible to consult certain profiles or post messages. Contacted by AFP, Twitter did not react immediately.

“Few people to solve technical problems”

The blue bird social network has already suffered from technical problems in recent months, in particular at the end of December when certain users could not connect to their own account or could not consult certain accounts.

This new technical hitch comes at a sensitive time for Twitter, in turmoil since its acquisition by Elon Musk for 44 billion dollars at the end of October. The multi-entrepreneur has notably laid off many employees, including among the teams dealing with the technical maintenance of the platform, and has initiated several projects, including paid certification or the modification of tweets.

“The staff is reduced to a skeleton, so there are very few people to deal with technical problems and those relating to content moderation,” explained Jasmine Enberg, analyst at Insider Intelligence.

According to her, the social network, which had more than 368 million monthly users worldwide in 2022, will lose some 32 million by 2024, put off by the proliferation of toxic content and by the increase in the number of outages. .
