The National Civil Police (PNC) reported this Thursday the murder of three people, including a minor and a person with a disability, in the south of Guatemala City. The victims of the armed attack were a 39-year-old woman, a 28-year-old man in a wheelchair, and a 17-year-old minor, according to the PNC.
The people were on the sidewalk of a residential neighborhood in the south of Guatemala City, when were attacked with firearm, detailed the same source. According to EFE, two of the victims died inside a vehicle and the person in a wheelchair was left lying on the sidewalk. After the attack, security forces two suspects arrested of having committed the crime. The main avenues of the sector were blocked by the Public Ministry (MP, Prosecutor’s Office) to examine the area of the triple crime.
In 2022, Guatemala City was the most violent municipality in the country with 618 homicides registered by the PNC. Guatemala recorded 3,004 murders last year and between 2013 and 2023, 60,000 people have died violently in the Central American country, according to official data.
