The ongoing debate about the duties of umpire Sathira Zakir JC in the Dhaka Premier League is not stopping. The two directors of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have given separate statements on the appointment of umpire Jesse to the ICC panel. Where no similarity was found in the statements of the two witnesses.
Umpires Committee Chairman Iftekhar Ahmed Mithu is very excited about JC’s inclusion in the Dhaka League. Ahead of the women’s World Cup matches, Jessie has experienced competitive men’s matches. For which he is happy. Quite annoyed with the same controversy.
On the other hand, BCB director and chairman of the game development committee, Khaled Mahmud Sujan, has objected to the appointment of JC in the big match of the Dhaka League. He also commented that JC is still not experienced in managing the big matches of the Dhaka League.
“In big games, I always think, you should give an umpire who has experience,” said Khaled Mahmood in Mirpur on Monday. But the pressure of the field is very big. You have to give an umpire who the players respect.’
Khaled Mahmud sees Jesse as a good umpire. But he claims, ‘The one who umpired is a very good umpire. Will do very well for Bangladesh in the future. He is a former national team player. Overall he has a background in cricket. But I don’t think his experience as an umpire is up to the level of doing it in such a big match like the Premier League.’
Although Iftekhar Mithu does not take any of these statements into consideration. In a statement given to the media, he said, ‘How is Jesse inexperienced! She has umpired in the Emerging Asia Cup, the Australia-Bangladesh Women’s match, an international match. The second division, the first division, performed duty everywhere. Where is the opportunity to say inexperienced?’
Bringing up the upcoming World Cup, Iftekhar Mithu added, ‘The women’s World Cup is ahead on the ground of the country, won’t everyone be happy if our two girls perform their duties? The country will not be happy? So if I don’t give him a chance first, how can I do it!’
JC is not umpiring in the Dhaka League for now. He is now in Sylhet to officiate in the ongoing T20 series between India and Bangladesh.
