The Federal Court of Criminal Cassation issued a ruling this Monday ordering the reopening of two cases in which the vice president is involved. Cristina Fernández de Kirchnerin addition to his son Máximo Kirchner and the businessman Lazarus Baezand that at the time they were about to begin the oral trial.

One of the cases is related to the so-called Hotesur-Los Sauces case, the name of two companies linked to the Kirchner family and that were investigated for allegedly laundering money from the awarding of public works. The case investigates whether Cristina Fernández received money from Báez, who was already convicted in a bidding case, in exchange for being favored.

The other case deals with an alleged secret pact with Iran to annul international arrest warrants against six former Iranian officials and another Lebanese, accused of being responsible in 1994 for the attack against the AMIA headquarters in Buenos Aires that left 85 dead. In fact, this case began after a complaint from the prosecutor Alberto Nismanwho was found dead in his apartment with a shot to the head shortly after making public the accusation against Fernández.

This decision has shaken the political landscape in Argentina and the reactions have not been long in coming. The presidential candidate for Together for Change, Patricia Bullrichpointed out through a message on social networks that it is “a tito for the side of justice” and added, referring to the vice president, that “Justice is pursuing her because they took everything away and because she wanted to give impunity to the AMIA murderers. Now it’s time for him to pay.”
