Time.news – Two Christian nurses from Faisalabad, a city in Pakistani Punjab, are accused of insulting the Koran in base al 295 B, one of the articles in the Pakistani penal code of the infamous “blasphemy law”.

As learned by Agenzia Fides, the First Investigation Report (FIR) n. 371/21 c was filed on 9 April. The case was registered at the request of the medical superintendent Mirza Mohammad Ali | of the civilian hospital of Faisalabad.

According to the complainant, two Christian nurses, Maryam Lal e Navish Arooj – accused by a head nurse, of Muslim religion – they would remove and tear from a wardrobe a sticker that contained verses from the Holy Quran.

On hearing that two nurses had been found guilty of dishonoring verses from the Holy Quran, one of the boys in the ward attempted to kill one of them with a knife. The woman, however, only injured her arm. Both nurses are in police custody.

Kashif Aslam, coordinator of the programs in the National Commission for Justice and Peace of the bishops of Pakistan, speaking to Fides, notes: “It is another false accusation against Christian women; there is a personal matter among the staff members that must be discovered in the investigation. The Christian faithful have a deep sensitivity on these issues, and they are also taught to respect other religions. I don’t believe that the young Christian nurses have profaned the sticker containing the verses of the Holy Quran ”.

“It is alarming – underlines Saleem Iqbal, a Christian activist for human rights – to see an increase in the number of people unjustly accused in cases of blasphemy and the forced conversions of girls belong to religious minorities. This is the second case recorded this year: previously the Christian nurse Tabitha Gill she was charged in a hospital in Karachi. Now this has happened in Faisalabad ”.

Iqbal appeals to Christian politicians to “hurry to act to protect their people and we ask the faithful to always be attentive to those who may trap them in such matters, using blasphemy for personal grudges or personal jealousies”.
