The candidate for the municipal presidency of Benemérito of the Americasmunicipality of Chiapas, Juan González Moralesknown in the region as Juan ‘Changarro’, was attacked last Friday night, May 3, along with his team by an armed group that left two dead and several injured.
The incident was shared by the party Chiapas United through their social networks in a statement where they regret the tragic result of their standard bearer, demanding that the authorities thoroughly investigate what happened to find those responsible.
“We very much regret and condemn the events that occurred in the municipality of Benemérito de las Américas, where our candidate Juan Gómez Morales suffered a outrage“.
Collaborators of the candidate shared that the candidate for fifth councilor also lost his life in the attack. Mauro Hernandez and that at least 18 people were injured.
The attack occurred after leading an event in the community New Veracruz, on the border with Guatemala, when the convoy in which it was returning to the municipal seat was attacked by armed men around 5:00 p.m. last Friday.
It is mentioned that the mayoral candidate managed to survive by escaping the bullets of the men who blocked the way for the vehicles.
During recent years, the municipality of Benemérito de las Américas has been the scene of multiple violent acts related to clashes between criminal organizations, resulting in a large number of homicides and cases of missing persons.
