Two workers aged 26 and 45 were killed Monday, November 28 by the collapse of a wall on a construction site in Saint-Georges d’Oléron (Charente-Maritime), firefighters said. A 15-year-old apprentice was ” Severly injured “ in the accident and airlifted to the hospital in Poitiers.
According to the mayor of Saint-Georges d’Oléron, Dominique Rabelle, the wall “three meters high and eight wide”adjoining a campsite and a house under construction, collapsed on the victims who were working on the site.
“Firefighters tried to resuscitate them for more than an hour, in vain”added the elected official of this town located on the Island of Oléron, specifying that it was a professional masonry company located in the town which was in charge of the work.
