Two drafts on severing relations with Russia were submitted to the Verkhovna Rada

Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Alexei Goncharenko from the European Solidarity faction submitted a draft resolution on the termination of diplomatic relations with Russia. A similar document was also prepared by non-partisan deputy Oksana Savchuk. The relevant documents appeared on the website of the Verkhovna Rada.

“Ukraine must stop diplomatic relations with Russia! Today, I urgently filed a corresponding resolution with the Verkhovna Rada. From year to year, the Russian Federation only aggravates the aggression against Ukraine: first, Putin occupied Crimea, then he started a war in the Donbass. And now he continues to exert pressure: he recognizes his puppets – the so-called L/DPR – as independent. By yesterday’s confession, Putin, in fact, himself terminated diplomatic relations with us,” Mr. Goncharenko wrote in his Telegram channel.

Oksana Savchuk also submitted a draft resolution on the closure of Ukraine’s border with Russia and Belarus, the termination of transport links with Russia and the introduction of martial law in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

“There is no need for long negotiations – decisive actions are needed. I will tell you that there is not enough nationalist faction in the parliament,” Savchuk wrote on Facebook.

Earlier today, on February 22, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a statement calling on Russia to withdraw recognition of the DNR and LNR. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky also said that the Foreign Ministry invited him to break off diplomatic relations with Russia.

Russian President Vladimir Putin yesterday, February 21, recognized the independence of the DNR and LNR. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky called this decision a violation of the territorial integrity of Ukraine. Western countries have promised to impose sanctions against Russia against the backdrop of recognizing the independence of the self-proclaimed republics.
