Two elected senators from La Jornada – Va por México join the Morena bench

by time news

Before the meeting with newly elected President Claudia Sheinbaum, the Morena group in the Senate welcomed two elected PRD senators, José Sabino Herrera and Araceli Saucedo, who ran under the acronym Va por México coalition but today decided to join the cherry bench.

With this, Morena and its allies are just one vote away from securing the qualified majority needed to approve the constitutional initiatives of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and new President Claudia Sheinbaum, including judicial reform.

Likewise, Morena’s 60 deputies decided to elect Gerardo Fernández Norona to preside over that house for the first year of the legislature.

This is a matter that was decided in the last hours, since until yesterday another candidate was Ignacio Mier, the coordinator of Morena’s deputies.

The Cherry Bench also decided to confirm Adán Augusto López Hernández as its coordinator for the next legislature, which begins on September 1.

The senators began meeting with newly elected President Claudia Sheinbaum, who welcomed the two new senators from Morena, bringing the Chéri group to 62 senators, and together with the PT and the PVEM they reached 85 seats, only one short of the 86 seats needed to achieve the two-thirds vote needed for a full constitutional reform and most appointments.

Although the coordinator Adam Augusto Lopez He denied yesterday and until this morning that the two PRD members’ ascension to the majority bench had already been decided, until earlier today they were presented to the applause of those present.
