Two fans were arrested on suspicion of assaulting police officers and a security guard at Sami Ofer Stadium

by time news

During the football game between Maccabi Haifa and Maccabi Tel Aviv held last night (Monday) at the Sami Ofer Stadium, fans of both teams behaved wildly inside and outside the stadium, attacking police officers and a security guard on the spot, while some of them even had assault weapons seized.

Meanwhile, Israeli police officers who were present at the scene arrested two of the rioters and detained nine more, for questioning at the Haifa police station.

The police intend to request this morning to extend the detention of two of the rioters, two residents of the central region of the country, in the Magistrate’s Court in Haifa.

The police said: “We take very seriously violence and bullying of any kind on and near sports fields, and in particular violence against police forces. We will continue to take action against anyone who improves public order and law and tries to harm police officers, sporting events and anywhere else.”
