Two groups of Roumari Upazila Awami League have opposed each other over the dissolution of the defunct committee. On Saturday, both sides held alternate rallies, human chains and press conferences throughout the day. As a result, the situation is stagnant in the area. Efforts are being made to handle the situation by bringing a special police team from the neighboring upazila.
At around 11 o’clock, a protest march led by the senior vice president of Upazila Awami League Rezaul Islam Minu started from in front of Roumari Islami Bank and after the special road circuit, a road meeting was held in the upazila square. Vice President Rafiqul Alam Shahin, Joint Secretary General Abid Shah Newaz Tuhin, Organizing Secretary SMA Matin, Organizing Secretary Maidul Islam, Youth and Sports Secretary Afzal Hossain Biplab, Awami Jubo League General Secretary (Active) Abul Kalam Azad, spoke at the the meeting of the League Convenor Matiur Rahman Moti, former NR vice-president Jahangir Rabu, former organizational secretary Mahbubul Alam Badal and more than 500 leaders and activists of A-League, Jubo League and Chhatra League.
In the meeting, Vice President Rezaul Islam Minu said that the general secretary of the current unauthorized committee, Abu Horaira, is a book thief. How can he hold a vital job in the party even after being in government service. We want to dissolve this illegal committee, along with a full committee.
On the other hand, former Minister of State for Public Education and Upazila Awami League President Zakir Hossain held a press conference at the Upazila Awami League office. Upazila Awami League General Secretary Abu Horaira, Planning Committee Organizing Secretary Aktar Ahsan Babu, Joint General Secretary Raju Ahmed Khoka, Upazila Jubo League Organizing Secretary Abdul Malek and many others were present. Later they held a protest march. The procession starts from the party office and ends at the market circle and meets at the residence of the former minister of state.
He said in the press conference, I have developed a lot in the area. There is a conspiracy to kill me. The group that is creating chaos today took many privileges from me once. Today they are pushing the party towards destruction by favoring the current MP.
Regarding the current situation, Assistant Superintendent of Police and Roumari Circle Mominul Islam said that both parties have been warned. We are keeping a close eye on the chance that no incident will occur. At the moment the situation is calm.
Roumari Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nahid Hasan Khan said, based on the information of various intelligence agencies, which we have already prepared. Additional police have been deployed to ensure that law and order is not disrupted.
